Will a Adult Great Dane get along with my 2 year old cats?
We currently have two 2 year old cats and want to adopt a 3 yr old great dane. He's a sweetie with us and the shelter says he's fine with small dogs, but I want to do what is best for our cats and also not put stress on the dog if we were to have to return him (he's been at this shelter twice due to bad situations). I'm torn...

Seperate them at all times at first and let the dane get comfortable. And then slowly introduce them to each other, supervising at all times.Watch their behaviour and see if you can see any danger in leaving them alone together.Keep supervising them for at least a few months before you leave them alone. It also depends on the characters of the animals in question. Some dogs get on very well with cats, rabbits etc..
i doubt it. gl
dogs and cats don’t typically mix well! unless they grow up together! try taking your cats to the shelter and see how he reacts to them! good luck!
Your cats will not adopt so well as you already know. I’m sorry
probably better than the cats will get along with the dog.
Well, not too long ago my family adopted a beagle/sheltie mix named Callie. Callie was a sweetheart and was good with even the toddlers but tried to kill the cat, and after that we found out she was food aggressive with our other dog, and had to give her back to the rescue. Turns out they didn’t test her because she seemed so sweet… anyway, usually they won’t mind doing a cat test, just to be safe. They just bring a cat into a room with the dog (it’s supervised so the cat won’t get hurt) and see the dog’s reaction. If it’s aggressive, he’s probably not great, but if it’s just playing, it isn’t as bad, but a big dog could hurt a cat when he’s trying to play. So get a test, just to be safe, and hope he ignores cats!
well, my friend had a cat for while… then they got a germany shepard mix.. basically the dog was scared of the cat… i swear cat’s own dogs. imo it’s better to introduce cats + dogs while they are still young.
