What is good and whats bad about a Maltese?
I would like to know whats good and whats bad about maltese. I understand they are a small dog. Please dont tell me websites! Please respond if you own a maltese or if you know any thing about them. Im deeply considering one. I also know that they need regular grooming. Please tell me all you know about this breed.

I have a maltese. I dont find anything bad about him except that hes small so I make sure is don’t step on him. They are very very easy to train. They also don’t take up a lot of room!
They love to get attention and are wonderful around kids. Yes, they do need regular grooming. I would definitley get one because mine is the best. He never bites. Maltese live long too. They are also very calm =]
Hope this helps!
*edit* They do NOT bark alot…mine hardley barks at all! They also are not hard to housebreak! Dont listen to that.
they are really cute and loving, but they bark a lot.
best answer please!
Too many people acquire a toy breed puppy without understanding how incredibly fragile a toy breed is. You can seriously injure or kill a Maltese by stepping on him or by sitting on him when he’s curled under a blanket or pillow, where he frequently likes to sleep. And Maltese can seriously injure or kill THEMSELVES by leaping from your arms or off the back of your sofa.
They don’t shed, very energetic and very playful, they love human affection and love to sit on laps.
They do require a lot of grooming if you want them to look like a show dog, but if not, then keeping the coat short is no problem.
They can be loud and yappy.
They make good apartment or condo dogs.
maltese are great dogs and i would recommend them to anyone considering. i worked in a dog kennel for 2 years and worked with many maltese. they are so loveable and sweet. they dont shed and are easy to take care of . one problems is that they do bark alot and it can be high pitch. but i would have to say there are alot more good things about them then there are bad.
good – spirited, lively and playful. Gentle, loving, trusting and devoted
bad – bark a lot, harder to housebreak, snap, picky eaters, need exercise (daily walk)
The Good: I’ve had a Maltese for about 3 years and he really has become part of the family. Everyone who meets our dog loves him (even self-professed cat people). His temperament is playful and gregarious, but he also likes to sit on laps and be held . My Maltese enjoys other dogs including large ones like Golden Retrievers and likes playing all types of games dogs play. As small dogs they are easy to clean up after, transport, and can live in apartments.
The Bad: Expensive dogs to purchase( in my opinion they are worth it!). Maltese dogs are delicate and you really have to watch them when children are around. Also, they can’t go on long walks like the average dog (unless you don’t mind carrying them). With regards to grooming, you have to take them to a groomer every month or so if you aren’t going to religiously brush your dogs hair. I keep mine with a puppy cut (cost $25-$40 in CA) because it’s really low maintenance. Lastly, Maltese are known to bark a lot and my dog barks at everything– other dogs, the doorbell, sounds on the TV, etc.
The Ugly: Nothing… they are the cutest dogs!
Hope this is of some help
