What is a good book to use to train my doberman pinscher at home?
She is 6 yrs old, and I got her from a rescue group. I dont want to go to classes, & i feel itd be more personal if i did it.
Thankx

Well, it might be more personal, but it won’t be as easy or successful, or fast as if you had help from a professional. There is no "one book" that will explain how to be a dog trainer, it takes years of experience and practice. I don’t know about you, but I would prefer not to "practice" on my dog. Just go to classes, and read a book.
I personally love the Dummies books. Good info and I think the writers are good.
For the record, I completly agree that going to a class would be much better for you and your dog because there is always somebody there to show you, help you, lead you.
Dogs don’t need to be trained in a ‘more personal’ manner dear. You need to get her and yourself to a class. No book will train you to train her properly and whatever training you did would be useless in any situation other than a controlled environment. I know you won’t believe that and you will just go ahead and use some asinine book or dvd or website that some fool suggests but the fact is, I have been training Dobermans of various ages for decades, over five actually, and successfully and would never place a dog with someone who refused to take a dog to a training class. 90% of what is trained in a training class is YOU, not the dog and you are the one that needs the training. I have trained to a number of titles over the decades, trained and competed with others’ dogs and I STILL take them to training classes as it is just the wise thing to do. Not the shortcut or quick fix thing that likely lead to that poor b*tch ending up in rescue in the first place. What rescue placed a b*tch with you knowing you refuse to take her to an obedience class? Just your comment about ‘feel itd be more personal’ shows you know very little about dogs and even less about Dobermans or training. Sorry… get to a class and be responsible.
