Is a 1 year old white german shepherd dog good around babies and family members when adopted at that age?thnx?
I am thinking about getting this one year old white german shepherd from the human society. She had been lost and no one had claimed her so they put her up for adoption. she seems a bit skinny but one of the vet techs told me thats becasue probably she hadn't eatin in a while when she had been lost wondering around. When i met her one on one she was very jumpy and hyper one of the ladies said thats because they don't give it much excercise. She was very friendly and when i had a treat in my hand i told her to sit and she did. also she licked me my hands and face alot. she seemed to be trained dog. I have never owned a dog but i really want one. I have a baby sister (one year old) will the WGS be good around her and the rest of my family. I probably will keep this dog in my garage or in the back yard for a while before letting it in the house. i used to be scared of dogs but when i met this WGS i like connected to it i wasn't scared of it at all. is this one year old WGS okay to have.tx

What to do about a bad behaved Great Dane?
My boyfriend and I have a 8 month old Great Dane. She is a very whiny, bad behaved dog, that after months of training, still bites people, still pees and poos in the house, runs around like a crazy dog, runs straight in to people and objects, and is just all together not a well trained dog. She has her moments, rarely, where she will behave for very short periods of time.
I am almost 12 weeks pregnant, and I can't have my dog acting this way. And once my baby is here, more importantly, she will not be able to act this way. Right now there is NO way I can afford training classes. My vet recommended obedience training, but that is way to expensive for us right now. I really don't want to have to sell my dog, but she can not keep acting this way.
Can you tell me any training tips?
What could I do to help?
Also, is there some type of medicine or anything I could give her to calm her down? She is WAY to hyper. I know she is a puppy, but she is a huge puppy that stays in the house, and jumps on people, and breaks things, and I need something to calm her down. She gets plenty of exercise, so that's not the problem.
Thanks for your help!

How do I find a dog to breed my Pomeranian with?
I have a 1 year old Pomeranian from a champion line that should soon be ready to breed. How do I go about finding a male dog to breed her with?
I have checked with the vet, she is healthy... Why I want to breed her is not for the money. All of you who have a pure bred dog obviously bought yours, so dont tell me about the SPCA.

How does a Great Dane at age 1 need to weigh?
My big baby is 88 pounds. She had a birthday on Feb 14th, so she is 1 years old. I took her to the vet for her rabies, and i asked my vet if her being thin is okay. He did say she looks thin but her coat is very shiny and she appears to be healthy! How much does a Great Dane suppose to weigh at 1? She is a harlequin, about 6 feet tall standing on her back legs. Thank you for any help!

How much does it cost to remove a stone from a pomeranian?
I have a black Pomeranian and the vet thinks he may have a stone in his urethra. Do you know around how much that surgery will cost so I don't loose it and cry at the vet?

What would be the best way for my Doberman to gain healthy weight?
I have a doberman that is a little over a year old. I just took him for his yearly checkup the other day and he is only 58 pounds, which is about 20 pounds under breed standards. The vet said he is very healthy but wants to see more weight on him. I would love some suggestions on how to add healthy weight and muscle mass to my dog.

To give or not to give calcium to large breed dog?
I brought my 10 week old Neapolitan mastiff puppy home from the breeder (who is also a vet) 3 weeks ago. She instructed me to supplement him with calcium daily. When I brought him to the vet last week, she told me I shouldn't give him calcium as he could potentially develop bone/hip/joint problems if his bones grow too quickly. Apparently this is more common in large breed dogs. Any thoughts on the conflicting advice?

How to care for a pregnant german shepherd?
I just got a german shepherd from a person I know. They were going to give her up because she shed too much hair and they didn't like her. I adopted her and I love her so much. She is such a good dog. I can't believe how people can treat animals so awful. Her litter should arrive in the first week of May. My question is what can I do to make sure she has the best delivery possible. Should I feed her a certain diet or include certain things? I have an appointment with the vet but not until two weeks, just wanting to get advice on how to give her the best care possible. Thanks!
I am currently feeding her pedigree puppy food. Is that ok or should I buy something else? We also built a huge pen for her so she can have her puppies there. She is already use to it, we leave her in there for a few hours a day, and I do walk her daily. I bought a pool and have some hay ready to fill it with when she delivers, is that ok?

What can I do for my german shepherd?
I adopted Kalo, (my German shepherd - the best of all the large breed dogs) a month ago. Sence then I took him to the vet. He had worms. He got treated. The problem is he is still skinny. The vet said he could not find a medical reason. He eats like a horse, but not gaining wight. I feed him dog food with no fillers, just like my vet told me. I've seen onter german shepherds, they are heavier then him. Hes not extremely skinny, just thin. What can I do to make him heavier? He is very active.
I feed him Nutro Max.

What to do with our German Shepherd puppy during the day?
We have a 7 week old german shepherd and she has generally been a great dog so far. The only problem is I work during the day and my wife works 3 nights a week as a nurse. So we don't know what to do with the dog during the day. She's fine in her crate at night but by 7 am she's is ready to be out and she cries the whole time if we put her in there. My wife has to sleep during some days so what should we do?
Those of you that follow the current trend in dog raising are clearly off base which makes it hard to consider your answers. Regardless of the popular opinion, there is still argument as to when the best time to get a puppy is. Many argue that it is more difficult to housebreak a dog at 10-12 weeks. Our vet who has 30 years experience says it is fine. Socializing the dog is key and that needs to be done regardless of the age and can be done regardless of the age.
As for our schedule, it actually works out fine past these beginning weeks. The dog is fine at night as we take it out like anybody else would. My wife has 4 full days off a week which is way more than most and the days that she sleeps she wakes up at 2-3 and I come home for lunch to let the dog out and play with it.
My questions was simply what to do with her for the 4 hours shes alone which compared to other dog owners, probably most of you included, is rather short. I apologize for not being clearer before.

How heavy is my doberman puppy supposed to be?
Is there any online site that tells me how heavy my dobie puppy SHOULD be (month by month would be nice!)? My pup and I went to see his vet yesterday, who told us that he needed to put on a little bit of weight. Hes almost 6 months old, eats 3 times a day, and seems average to me. However, I've been trying to feed him more to help "fatten" him up. Does anyone know how heavy a 5 1/2 month Doberman pup should be?

How big can I expect my female doberman to get?
I had a lot of experience with large breed dogs but I have a 14 month old female black and tan doberman. She is getting to the age where I expect her to be fairly well full grown, but she seems to be getting taller. Am I imagining things or is it possible that she's still growing? I can see her filling out a bit more - she's still fairly slender, even for a doberman, but I'm wondering if she's going to get taller. Last time we were at the vet (5 months ago) she weighed just over 60 pounds, and has grown to about 70-75 pounds now. She's the first of her breed I've owned. She's an incredible dog! She's taller than our dalmatian by a good 4 inches, but she seems smaller than many dobermans I've seen.

German Shepherd?
My wife brought home a german shepherd puppy this morning. It's about 10-11 weeks old. You can see it has been mistreated but we will take care of it. The only thing that worries me is whether it's too old for her first shot. I'm planning to take her to the vet tomorrow to clear her from parasites and give her shots but I have read that pups shpould receive their shots until they are 9 weeks old not later. Is it safe to get them now and can I expect to have a helathy puppy - it's very important because I already have 2 dogs of my own and I don't want to risk. Tnx
