Is one bull mastiff enough for protection or should I get two?
There has been some house robberies lately in our neighbor hood, and my mom stays home alone sometimes, since I'm a dentist and I'm working. She doesn't want an alarm system. So we decided to buy a bull mastiff..She wanted to know if one bull mastiff was enough if a robber came in..She is very old.
I work 3 days a week for 10 hours so i think i have plenty of time.

Please don’t get *any* dogs if you are just getting them because you don’t want an alarm. Get a "Beware of Dog" sign (they have proven to be almost as good at deterring intruders as having an actual dog barking) and buy a motion sensing ‘bark machine’. That way it looks and sounds like a dog but you don’t have to worry about food (which can be quite an expense with a big dog), housetraining, obedience training, vet bills (also can get pricey with a big dog), socialization, playing, walking, etc. If you truly want a dog as a companion and protection is just a bonus, one bull mastiff will definitely be plenty. Just the big hefty bark is enough to scare any robber with some sense away. And even if they break in despite the barking, the sight of such a dog would send them packing. The dog probably wouldn’t actually have to do anything so one should be fine. However, if you have the time and resources maybe you should consider getting another dog (not necessarily of the same breed) as company for the Mastiff. If your mother is that elderly she probably wouldn’t be able to play with the dog and give it the attention it needs, and this way the dog will not get bored, hyper, aggressive, or destructive from lack of play and exercise. Good luck
Most robbers will avoid a house with a dog, however, 2 dogs for protection is always better than one.
One big dog would probably scare them off… but if you’re that worried then get two. I wouldn’t break into a house with two big barking doggies…
Just make sure you can afford the vet care for two big dogs. They are much more expensive than an alarm system. Probably not an issue if you’re a dentist!
you can’t rely on dog for protection. what if the robber is armed? thats why alarm system is better.
Or a better suggestion would be to make your doors, windows and locks much more stronger and tamper-proof. Certain companies do that.
Thats a bad reason to have a dog.If you’re a dentist, I bet you work long hours and dont have time to spend with one dog let alone two.
