Dogs often dig when they’re bored – Get him more exercise, take a long walk, play ball with him in the yard.
Go out with him and if he starts digging, correct him and bring him inside – Let him know it’s not acceptable.
tell him off!
We also have a digger. The only thing that has worked for us is a Dogtra collar. We don’t use the shock, just the vibrating page. It’s enough to distract her from what she’s doing. Simply put, we can’t leave her in the yard unattended because she’ll dig.
With a behaviour like this that is difficult to break, it can be a better solution to move the behaviour somewhere acceptable – a sandpit for example. I know it sounds silly – but a little kid’s sandpit could be just what you need – if you start out burying treats in it, your dog may soon get the idea – and if you catch him digging anywhere else, move him away from the ‘wrong’ area, and encourage him to find rewards where you want him to.
my friend once suggested to get a sand pit and bury her toys there that will keep her occupied and she is still digging and not ruining your garden.
Put his own dog poop in the whole and cover it with dirt. He’ll never dig there again.
idk smack him… yell at him… rocks in a bottle.
One thing we’ve always done is to put a brick in thier hole and fill it up, after a while of doing this they learn that everytime they dig they come across a brick and it is no longer any fun. this gets old pretty fast (for you). Then we talked with a dog trainer who told us the same thing as the person above, bury thier doo in it and rebury, this works even faster. good luck
