How do I introduce a 4 year old male Persian cat to a new 12 week old male Pomeranian puppy?
I'd like to purchase a 12 week old Pomeranian puppy, but I'm very nervous about my 4 year old male persian cat. He is a great cat & loving. But we've spoiled him with so much attention, that I'm afraid he may become jealous of a new "male" Pomeranian puppy we'd like to buy. How shall I introduce them? Does anyone know a little about Pomeranians?

Yes, I work at a shelter for poms (pomposse.org)
Anyway, introduction of new animals is key. The one you have to worry about is the oldest one, and the one who is already in the home. AT 12 weeks the pommie is still up for whatever (a good tempered one) and will learn to deal with the home it is in, as when he is brought in he is being brought into an already established "pack"
If you can, introduce them by letting them see each other, then put one on one side of a door and the other on the otherside and let them sniff each other, then let them see each other again, and see how the interaction goes and work from there.
They of course are gong to try and play and you have to make sure they dont hurt each other..
The best thing would be if you have a gate (either dog, or baby gate) or a crate. and let them sniff through these things, that way they can see each other as well as smell.
It may take a matter of minutes, or a matter of weeks, but you have to work on THEIR time
The best way to introduce two pets to each other is by confining one to one room. Keep a blanket under each of their feeding dishes and switch them every couple of days so they get used to the others’ scent. Then switch rooms. After a week or so, depending on how the cat acts, try letting them in the same room for meals away from each other. You can gradually move the dishes closer together, but if either starts showing aggression, take them away. It can take a lot of patience but its important if you want them to get along!
first, put the cat and dog in a cage then face them to each other.after that see if they like each other,if not you can plan out a schedule like the dog can come out for half an hour and the cat for half an hour.
First of all, the cat is there already so it should be like the head of the house, so a small puppy shouldn’t be a problem. My DIL just got a puppy and already had a cat, and the cat plays with the puppy, they are just babies and the other pets can tell.
