German shepherd dog digging holes questions?
I have a German Shepherd female she is about 1 year and 4 months old I want to train her to go poop in one certain area in my back yard she has ruin my whole back yard and I am planning on re-growing my yard but I want her to go poop in one area of my yard only I notice my neighbor’s dog I train like that he has a boxer and he has a pretty lawn just like I did but my dog has ruin it with holes. I also want to train her to stop making holes she makes so huge holes
Okay anyone ever had or had a friend who has had a GSD in an apartment you because they are not you’re typical little dog GSD are bigger.

Keep her supervised when she’s outside and she won’t dig. You’ll be able to correct her when she starts.
GSDs are generally family dogs. If you can’t provide an indoor home for the dog for the majority of the day, you shouldn’t have a GSD. Bring the dog in and only allow him out when you can watch him.
As far as the poop, bring him out on a leash and make him poop in the area that you want.
LION POO!! it’s a new product, lion poo pellets, get them and sprinkle them all over the area where you dont want your dog to do it’s buisness. and it wont like the smell of it. i used to have a german shepard, the problem i had was it would jump over 8ft walls!
Some dogs just love to dig. The best method I’ve seen to address this problem is to build them a sandbox in one part of the yard. Make it big and deep enough and fill it with sand and train her to dig there. Bury her toys and treats in there and she will be motivated to confine her digging to just that area.
You can also train them to use a designated potty area but that takes some time and persistence on your part. You have to catch her in the act and take her to the designated area every single time. Once she has gone in an undesignated area, there is nothing you can do but clean up and move on.
well its pretty tough 2 train a dog not 2 dig not that its hard wat i meant is thats its unfair 2 ur gsd cause dogs love digging and it keeps her entertained, good luck with ur lawn
If she digs holes then come out and lightley scowl at them, no hitting just the shaking of the finger and no treat. Plus you could ask your neighbor how he got his dog to only go poop in one place and not dig holes. Don’t fix your lawn until your dog know’s the limits.
Best bet is probably getting a trainer for her or sending her to obidience school….
I promise you this will work, place her own stool in the holes she has dug, and she will not dig in those areas any more, i tried it and it really does work!
shepherds are very adaptable and will be happy anywhere. just make sure they get enough exercise. i dont know any really effective ways to stop digging. you probably almost should tie her in a certain area and just live with the holes.
Don’t leave her outside unsupervised and she won’t have the chance to dig holes.
If you want her to go in one area, lead her to it on leash and praise her for going in that spot. Eventually she’ll go to it on her own.
they dig holes cause to hide there so other food so other dog won’t eat it
What ever you do don’t leave the dog’s poop in the hole. It’s unsanitary and most dogs would eat their own poop if they get the chance. Not really productive of an answer. Try putting large quantities of pepper in the holes, it will make them sneeze beyond belief and the hotness of the pepper as they try to get it off their nose will deter the behaviour. same goes for dogs that jump up on the counters to steal food. Make a point of leaving a piece of food laced with pepper – they’ll go for it, try it and never try that again. Good luck
