What is wrong with my dog
What is wrong with my dog
Understanding your dog actions is the first step in dealing with dog's behavior. Unless some irregular or aggressive behavior as a response to a medical treatment, most probably, your dog didn't turn bad overnight. Most dog's behavior issues start small and grow out of control as the behavior is continually reinforced. If you want to learn how to train a dog to behave, look back to when it all began and ask yourself a few simple questions.
These questions will help you analyze your dog's behavior. You will be surprised how easy it is to turn your rebellious dog into a good and disciplined animal.
- Does a specific behavior occur only when certain people are at home?
- Is it only happening in specific parts of the house or particular areas outside?
- Are there any objects that stimulate your dog to take action?
- Does your dog do it constantly or occasionally?
- Does he do it when he's triggered or any other time?
- Did he ever change his behavior in response to something you did or say?
Rewarding bad behavior can be destructive.
In most cases the answer for the question what is wrong with my dog can be solved if only we knew dogs tendencies to repeat rewarding behaviors. A bad behavior can quickly grow out of control and the more your dog behaves wrong, the more likely he is to do it again. If you forbid his bad behavior, you will be able to break this cycle and stop the problem before it gets worse. Remember, it's always easier to acquire new good behavior to your dog than replace a bad one.
Make your own choice.
I know, it's frustrating to find your dog's poo on the living room carpet or your brand new shoe chewed up. So when you helplessly standing and asking yourself what is wrong with my dog, remember that controlling your dog's behavior is in your hands.. If you manage to succeed, you can avoid unpleasant situations such these, you'll have less negative emotions and stress, you'll appreciate the dog more and more and obviously yourself.

How do you train a great dane not to lean on you?
The reason i ask is because i am 5 months pregnant and i don't want it knocking my kid over someday?? We have always heard that danes are a leaning kind of a dog and to them its just a social thing? I don't mind it now but i think my kid will someday?

I do I train a 3 year old great dane who destroys the house and pees and poops on the floor?
I recently adopted a 3 year old female great dane. As sweet as she is though, she is very destructive and pees and poops in the house no matter how many times she is let out. Ive given her tons of toys and nothing is working. I need some specific advice on what to do? Ive never had to train an adult dog who weighs as much as I do before.

what would be the best collar to use for a great dane dog, that won’t cause red marks/rash around their neck?
I have regular Nylon collar that she wears, But what one would be best for like walking n training her with, I havent used a prong collar yet, but would that cause any redness around the neck when it jabs or pokes her? I have tried choke chains and martingales but they really hurt her neck, and i dont wanna go to using those anymore. I think its since they have short fur that its sensitive on their necks?
shes really strong too so its hard to just walk her with a regular collar. I want somethin that won't hurt around her neck.
yeah i do use a halti sometimes for walking her.
Yea . I have had her in a few obedience classes, and gonna keep her in them for a while.
does your dane get a sore/red neck with certain collars?
Is there anything that would help to prevent this??

Help!!… Great Dane Training..?
I have a 13 week Great Dane mix.. She's 1/2 Great Dane and 1/2 Bull Mastiff...
She's a really sweet dog, but she just does not listen! She understands that we someone says "NO!" that she's not supposed to do that or go there, but sometimes she still does... I know that you're supposed to use positive reinforcement with danes, but sometimes it gets so annoying that I'll yell or tap her on the butt real lightly... but for the most part I just clap my hands real loudly..
Oh she also runs away sometimes when I try to bring her back...
PLEASE!! If you know how to help ANSWER!!
Thank You!! ![]()
Thanks for all ya'lls help...
And yes I realize that Harleigh is still just a young pup.. I guess I just forget cause she's so big! haha..
If you have any other training tips that may help.. You are more than welcome to share them with me!
Thanks again!

Great Dane puppy training question?
My Great Dane puppy Thor is 4 months old. Very healthy, happy and for the most part as well behaved as you can reasonably expect a baby to be.
He is growing fast and is now tall enough to stick his head in the trash can. He has started digging through the trash and tearing it up.
I try to keep an eye on him, but it is impossible to watch him every second. He is crate trained, so he does not wander around the house at night or when I am not home.
I have bought a can of stuff that is supposed to be a harmless dog repellant and sprayed it all over the outside of the trash can, including the lid. It does not seem to bother him or slow him down at all.
He is otherwise a sweet natured and well behaved puppy. I am training him to sit and stay and walk on a leash, those I can do with treats and praise. I understand how to teach what I want him to do; however I am at a loss when it comes to teaching him what I do not want him to do.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Training a great dane that does whatever it wants?
I have no clue where to start. How can u teach a great dane that if its not given to him, its not his. he's a puppy (21 months) but he's already stolen 3 WHOLE dinners, including a thanksgiving dinner which would of lasted more then one day. he ate better then us. the people i live with think thats funny. he steals food at any oppurtinuty its like you have to fight him to have your own cuz hes so huge. to him its worth it cuz he gets yelled at, but he still gets the food. (u can be yelling at him as hes still taking it so that shows 100% that he dont give a damn) so i try & take it to the next level after he stole off my 1 year old daughters tray and not give him any treats but give the other dog in front of him & they get pissed at me about it. its not my dog but i am a person so i am over the dog & im doing what i can do to work with him bc hes behavior is unacceptable. i dont feel like any dog should be liked to much to get trained and he is spoiled way past rotten & the food isnt the only thing he acts up with.
really 1st answer, its all that? this isnt my dog & the problems are over welming but theres only so much i can do, i cant take him out of the bed that he sleeps in with his mommy and daddy, so yes he thinks he is king.

What to do about a bad behaved Great Dane?
My boyfriend and I have a 8 month old Great Dane. She is a very whiny, bad behaved dog, that after months of training, still bites people, still pees and poos in the house, runs around like a crazy dog, runs straight in to people and objects, and is just all together not a well trained dog. She has her moments, rarely, where she will behave for very short periods of time.
I am almost 12 weeks pregnant, and I can't have my dog acting this way. And once my baby is here, more importantly, she will not be able to act this way. Right now there is NO way I can afford training classes. My vet recommended obedience training, but that is way to expensive for us right now. I really don't want to have to sell my dog, but she can not keep acting this way.
Can you tell me any training tips?
What could I do to help?
Also, is there some type of medicine or anything I could give her to calm her down? She is WAY to hyper. I know she is a puppy, but she is a huge puppy that stays in the house, and jumps on people, and breaks things, and I need something to calm her down. She gets plenty of exercise, so that's not the problem.
Thanks for your help!

Is it common to be able to adopt a young Great Dane that already has it’s ears cropped?
I'm looking into adopting a Great Dane but i think i want to adopt an adolescent. I also really like the look of cropped ears on this breed but unless the dog already has it done i am not going to put it through that. I was just wondering if it was common in rescue dogs to see cropped ears. Also what is a good age to start training a Great Dane?

training a great dane puppy?
I am thinking about getting a great dane puppy, he is 4 months old. I want to train him as well as I can when he is young, everything from general obedience, to taking walks, and being housetrained. I'm also worried that since it is a boy he will lift his leg and pee in the house? How can I prevent this?
I heard that if a male dog is neutered before a certain age this will prevent them from lifting their leg when they are urinating.. true? If so what age?
Thanks.

Training a 13weeks old great dane?
okey so i'm gonna get a great dane pup which is 13weeks old a male 1 and i'm really exited because i'm a big dog lover! the problem i'm having is that the dogs i've had before were not big and so there was no need of specially training them since they can be handled very easily.. though i've searched alot on the internet about how to tran a great dane i couldn't find any.
i've learnt that great danes are very kind playful dogs and love human presence. but it specifically says that the dog should be very well trained to be obidient to the owner... and that left me a bit nervous
so any tips on how to train a great dane are really appreciated! thank you!

Question about training a great dane? Good idea or bad?

( because i was in my kitchen) and outside my bushline was a guy standing there peering into my window, he ran once he noticed me and i called my father right away lol..but what if it had led to more...so for protective reasons is there anyway to train a dog to attack?? i know it says they can sence when something is wrong but what if they dont sence it. By no means do i want him to be mean we go to traning so he is well behaved but just in case...i think it may be a good thing?? maybe not...please help?!

training my great dane??
I have a 1 1/2 yo great dane. He is the GREATEST dog I have ever had. He sits, stays, speaks, shakes, comes, stays etc... I don't even have to have him on a leash in my unfenced back yard or the park or where ever(i do for legal reasons when required).
OK so the only thing I cant get this great dog to too is STOP EATING OFF THE TABLE,TRASH and anything with people food on it.
I have had the dog for a week. I do not give him people food, but the previous owner more then likely did.
Yes this dog is very smart. NO does it and he backs away, but he will come back and do it right in front of me like its nothing
"donna and jesse" great site and you know your stuff.
the answer is not to simply make it so the dog cant get it. I should be able to leave a t-bone steak right in front of my dog and say one command and he will NEVER even look at it unless I say its ok. any dog can be trianed like that and I have trianed this dog a lot in a week, but I was stuck on one problem. sorry, but if you just make it so the dog cant get it then you are not trianing your dog.
