Where can I find a female Great Dane or Bull Mastiff with little or no adoption fee?

Ohio or surrounding area - We have adopted 2 dogs already, one from the pound and another we took in for a friend. Both are smaller breeds and we have a large home on a 2-lot property. We'd love to give a loving home to a female Dane or Mastiff. Prefer they be fixed if there is an adoption fee, but will cover the expense ourselves if there is no fee. Thanks!

I had an English Mastiff in the past and was thinking of getting a Cane corso. Any comments on that breed?

I have dominant breed training experience from my English Mastiff, but I realize the Cane Corso is a bit different. Can anyone share some experiences with this breed? Pros/cons? I have a 2 yr old who is around 2 large goldens and has learned to respect them. Besides the obvious small child advice, does anyone have some insight on this breed?

Would a French Mastiff be considered a pit bull ?

Would a French Mastiff be considered a pit bull? In my eyes, no but I want other peoples opinion. When I hear " pit bull ", I think more of the APBT, AST and SBT. I really dont think of mastiff breeds or herding breeds.

Do you think a French Mastiff would be considered a pit bull ? I most certainly dont in my opinion.

I realize that each dog is different and this is just to get a general idea.

How can I get my english mastiff to go up stairs.?

Our mastiff used to sleep with us. Just moved to a two story and he will not go up the stairs. Tried putting treats all the way up the stairs and he will get as many as he can reach without going up the stairs. At night he stands at the stairs and cries when we go to bed, but will not venture up the stairs.

Would an english bulldog and english mastiff be a good match up to be raised together?

I was thinking of getting an English Bulldog and English Mastiff, but didn't know if they would be a good match up together. And I have heard it would be better to get the Mastiff first because they can become jealous dogs. Is that true also?

How do I train my 3 yr old mastiff?

We just adopted a 10 month old male and 3 yr old female neo mastiff, both were raised outside. We want them to be indoor dogs. How do I train them house manners? As in counter surfing, potty, no jumping on the couch, things like that. I could use helpful methods on obedience training as well. Any help would be appreciated.

What should I do If My Mastiff Bites Me?

I have a 3-year-old Neopolitan Mastiff named Baxter, and he keeps on biting me! I really don't want to get of Baxter, but I have holes all up and and down my right arm from that dang mutt. Should I take him to an animal trainer, or take away his Beggin' Strips, or what?
I don't want to try biting him back. I really don't want to hurt the thing. He's still basically a puppy.

Is one bull mastiff enough for protection or should I get two?

There has been some house robberies lately in our neighbor hood, and my mom stays home alone sometimes, since I'm a dentist and I'm working. She doesn't want an alarm system. So we decided to buy a bull mastiff..She wanted to know if one bull mastiff was enough if a robber came in..She is very old.
I work 3 days a week for 10 hours so i think i have plenty of time.

How can I stop my 14 month old English Mastiff from growling at strangers?

My very sweet male Mastiff has suddenly started growling, and even snapped at a few people (without hurting them). We are worried he might hurt someone. He only does this to people he doesnt know, both at our home and out in public. Any help would be greatly appreicated. We bought a prong collar and immediately reprimand him when this occurs but we really want to stop it before it gets out of hand. We have always owned Rottwielers and have never experianced this before.

What defines a shepherd and mastiff type dog?

There are many shepherd type dogs and many mastiff type dogs. There are also many dogs that look a lot like a shepherd yet aren't a shepherd and there are many really big dogs that aren't mastiffs. Have I confused you enough yet? My question is...what makes a shepherd dog a shepherd dog and what makes a mastiff a mastiff?
I want to know what defines shepherd type dogs and mastiff type dogs, not the german shepherd and mastiff breeds. Sorry for any confusion.

How do I keep my health restricted Bull mastiff entertained?

My mastiff is now 8 months old. About a 6 weeks ago he was diagnosed with Panosteitis by 2 different vets. Both vets advised us that we should keep him very non-active: no running, hard play, long walks, or any unnecessary up and down stairs (we live on the 4th floor). Along with inactivity he is being treated with anti inflammatory medication. My current problem is he now wants to chew EVERYTHING. He has seen a behavioral specialist who says he is bored, any ideas on how to keep him entertained enough to keep him from chewing things? He has more toys and chew items that would make anyone jealous, I'm not sure what else to do.

I am looking for a fully trained bull mastiff for personal protection, any ideas on where to get one?

I need a personal protection dog and really have my heart set on a bull mastiff, but cant seem to find one. I also wondered how I can get a certificate so I can take my dog everywhere?
Just to clarify I am willing to spend time training. I want a dog that was breed to be a protector and that was raised to be one and I would love to spend time in training with the dog.
