What kind of other dogs usually get along with a great dane?

We have a 1yr old great dane, a spayed female. We would like to get another dog that is not a dane, preferably about the size of a cocker spaniel or smaller (but not as small as a toy dog) ... We know that personalities will be the biggest deciding factor... and we would get the new dog as a pup but we dont know what kinds of breeds they tend to get along with... if you have a dane what other dogs do you have?

How can I prevent bow legs or knuckling in a Great Dane puppy?

I am getting my 10 week old Great Dane puppy shipped to me on Thursday. I've done some research and I see that Great Dane legs are prone to bowing or knuckling. What can I do to prevent that? I know placing the puppy on a low protein diet is one way but is there anything else I need to be careful of? Any advice from Great Dane owners is much appreciated.

How do I keep my lab puppy from bullying my great dane puppy?

Whenever they are together he contiuously bites her using his teeth, she bites back but NOT using her teeth!
My lab puppy is 4 months old and my great dane is 7 months old!
my lab has only drawn blood once and that was when he bit her leg!
he has scratched her up to where he has drawn blood! i'm just not sure what to do, that get along fine except when the biting and scratching starts.

How does a Great Dane at age 1 need to weigh?

My big baby is 88 pounds. She had a birthday on Feb 14th, so she is 1 years old. I took her to the vet for her rabies, and i asked my vet if her being thin is okay. He did say she looks thin but her coat is very shiny and she appears to be healthy! How much does a Great Dane suppose to weigh at 1? She is a harlequin, about 6 feet tall standing on her back legs. How big should a great dane’s dog house be?

My husband is planning on building our dog a dog house for outside. We have great dane mix puppy only about 5 months old, he's far from being full grown so i'm not sure what his full grown measurements will be. How big should an average great danes dog house be? we've looked at a few designs and we want to build one with a door on the front left side and inside it has a little half wall kind of thing so he can go to the right side and be blocked from the wind and rain and everything else. any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I love my dog and he is a great companion. did it ever occur to you that when i do put him outside on occasion, that i would like him to feel just as loved as if he was inside with me? have you ever had so much company that you want your dog outside so he doesn't bother them? i don't want to just put him out in my back yard, this house is for him to be in when he just can't be inside with me! How many times should a great dane eat per day?

I have a 9-month-old great dane, he is adorable. I used to feed him twice a day but he would always get diarrhea. A couple of days ago I started to only feed him in the night and now he has normal poo. I wonder if it would be alright to just feed him once a day?

Suggestions on how to learn to be a good Great Dane owner?

I've always loved Great Danes and would one day like to own one. I've never had a dog, though, and want to make sure that A) I can handle a dog that big, B) I know how to properly train a Dane, and C) I have enough room for one.

I'm planning to one day get a Dane from one of the rescues run in the US and from what I understand, they make sure that you'll be a good owner before they'll give you ownership. But how can I prepare? Does anybody know how much room a Great Dane needs? (Will I need acres? I'm assuming Danes aren't apartment dogs - is that a correct assumption?)

My 1 year old Great Dane is home alone during the day – what can I do to avoid her tearing up stuff?

My great dane is home alone for most of the day as we work full time. We got her a dog companion so she doesn't feel so alone! Unfortunately, she still seems to feel abandonned. They stay in a 10 x 10 kennel in our garage! We can't leave the pillows in it as she will shred them to pieces! Recently we invested in some linoleum so they are not on the cement and she even managed to tear a huge hole in it!! What can I do to stop that?
We can not leave her outside all day as she will dig in the yard and even has dug out bushes and small trees. We play with her for 15 minutes or so in the morning before we leave! She has tore up any rug we put in there so far!

My aunt is 71, home bound and uses a walker. She does not want a Great Dane in the house. She thinks it will knock her down or stand in her way and not move. Is this a valid concern?

She is a large woman and it would be a puppy we are getting. There is three other adults in the house that will actually be responsible for the puppy.

How do I get my great dane to loose weight?

My Great dane is a 3 yr old female. She is way overwieght. I only feed her the recomended amount of food for an adult great dane. She is eating high quality pet food. (Eagle pack) I walk her but its not working. I know to much exercise with her being this big could cause health problems but walking isn't working. Does anyone that knows the breed have any sugestions? P.S. She does have a vet appointment next week.
