Owning a Doberman pinscher
Owning a Doberman pinscher
Owning a Doberman pinscher can be a great experience or an awful one its all up to your investment and preparation. There are not many dogs who are as strong and big as a Doberman pinscher and in the same time wont leave their fur all over the place for you to find. Doberman pinscher is like the boss of all large breed dogs, it looks like "The Man": always thinking and show its presence but if it wont get the amount of exercise that it needs, it will turn in to a very destructive kind of monster, taking his energy out on people and stuff. If you want take good care of it from the moment you get it, even if its a puppy you'll find out that there is a great resemblance between a Doberman pinscher and a rabbit or a kangaroo as they are all tend to jump all the time. If you wont get it used to people it can act in different ways from aggression to suspicion and that is also true towards other animals. So if you have a cat at home maybe owning a Doberman pinscher isnt such a good idea. If you live in a loud place or if you tend to scream or shout a lot in the house your Doberman pinscher might suffer from that and act accordingly. But if you love animals and you are a quite and sportive kind of person then you can have a great time with Doberman pinscher and you'll both fall in love with one another.
That’s why I said that it depends a lot in your preparation and how you plan to bring up your dog. In a case of a Doberman pinscher choosing wisely is the most important thing.

What would be the best way for my Doberman to gain healthy weight?
I have a doberman that is a little over a year old. I just took him for his yearly checkup the other day and he is only 58 pounds, which is about 20 pounds under breed standards. The vet said he is very healthy but wants to see more weight on him. I would love some suggestions on how to add healthy weight and muscle mass to my dog.

What age of a doberman puppy is best suit to new home?
I found a doberman breeder, he has a doberman puppy which is now 5 weeks old. He suggest me to bring back the puppy after 8 weeks. Is that the best age for me to take dobie home?
I am thinking to bring it home while the dobie is seven weeks, is that ok?

How and where do i get my doberman puppy tested for genetic issues?
My female doberman puupy in 4 and a half months old. She will be 5mo on March 8. I recently found out that the breeder I bought her from did NOT have her parents tested for ANYTHING! I know there were suppose to be some tests...like hip and elbow. What test are there for her, and how old does she have to be to get them? Is it expensive?
How common is a hernia in a 6 week doberman puppy?
I am buying a doberman pup from it seems like a reputable breeder but I am just curious if this will impact the health of the doberman and whether it goes away by itself. There is some info on the internet but answers are not very clear.

How do I get my doberman pup to stop biting so hard when he plays?
He's ten weeks old and he love to bite and chew, everything shoes, legs, and the closest kid or you. His teeth are really shap and sometimes he'll bite hard. I know it's important to get doberman puppy associated with other dogs and children at a young age, so thier gentle later on, but everytime he's around kids I worry that he'll bite hard. How do I break him from it?

What is the difference between a European Doberman Pinscher and an American one?
I am planning on looking at a Doberman Pinscher puppy from a private seller tomorrow, and her ad says that her puppies are "Half American/Half-European" Doberman Pinschers. What does this mean? Does one breed have certain characteristics that the other one does not?

How heavy is my doberman puppy supposed to be?
Is there any online site that tells me how heavy my dobie puppy SHOULD be (month by month would be nice!)? My pup and I went to see his vet yesterday, who told us that he needed to put on a little bit of weight. Hes almost 6 months old, eats 3 times a day, and seems average to me. However, I've been trying to feed him more to help "fatten" him up. Does anyone know how heavy a 5 1/2 month Doberman pup should be?

How big can I expect my female doberman to get?
I had a lot of experience with large breed dogs but I have a 14 month old female black and tan doberman. She is getting to the age where I expect her to be fairly well full grown, but she seems to be getting taller. Am I imagining things or is it possible that she's still growing? I can see her filling out a bit more - she's still fairly slender, even for a doberman, but I'm wondering if she's going to get taller. Last time we were at the vet (5 months ago) she weighed just over 60 pounds, and has grown to about 70-75 pounds now. She's the first of her breed I've owned. She's an incredible dog! She's taller than our dalmatian by a good 4 inches, but she seems smaller than many dobermans I've seen.

Where can I adopt a Doberman Pinscher puppy?
By the end of this summer, I am looking to adopt a Doberman Pinscher baby. The big boss of all large breed dogs. I am NOT trying to purchase a Doberman pup from a breeder trying to sell their puppies. Even if I ever found a refutable breeder, I am adamant about saving lives through adoption. Doberman pups are hard to come by in a shelter; however, I know that animal shelters may have pregnant dogs. Does anyone know how I might be able to somehow locate a pregnant Doberman due to have their pups at the end of the summer? I'm finding it difficult because I don't think shelters put up their pregnant dogs up for adoption (so I wouldn't even know if they existed). Thanks!

Is getting a adult doberman pinscher from a rescue or breeder good for a first time dog owner?
I am planning on adopting a doberman pinscher from a rescue or buying a fully trained adult doberman pinscher from a reputable breeder website. I am a first time dog owner, however, I am ready to have this breed of dog. Which option is better for my situation?

When should a Doberman Pinscher be put in obedience classes?
My family and I are planning to get a Doberman Pinscher. I do have a small child in the home, so I think it would be a good idea to have the dog be in obedience class to help train the dog. I've had dogs my whole life and I've done a lot of training with them, but I want some help with it. So I need to know what age a Doberman should be put in classes.

What if my doberman is alone for 6 hours?
I'm planning on getting a Doberman in the summer. I have done my research and it seems as if I had to choose between the Doby and the Shepherd, but the Doby gets the edge.
I go to school during the regular school year from 7-2. Would my doberman have a hard time doing nothing? I will walk it in the morning before school to get it tired and in the evening, each walk about 45 minutes. I will be really loyal and nice. All it takes from the Doby on his side is the patience.
Any experiences?
