Can you crate train a doberman?
Thinking about adopting a doberman but I cant afford to have him pee on the carpet or mess things up in the house while I'm not home. Is it typical to leave a large dog like a doberman in crate every time you leave the house?

Absolutely. Any breed can be crate trained. Dobes have lots of energy, so just make sure you are giving two nice long walks per day and you will be fine.

You can crate train any dog. Personally, I would use one of those exercise pens for it, just because they’re a lot cheaper than just getting a huge crate. Then just put a safe toy or two in, to keep him busy when you’re gone and a bed or rug to lay on and it will be perfect.http://common.csnstores.com/Midwest-Homes-For-Pets-Pet-Exercise-Pen-without-Door-in-Black-Finish~img~MDW~MDW1098_a.jpg
You can train them go to a petco they usually have dog training also if you don’t want it peeing everywhere dogs pee on carpets because it’s like grass if you have a bathroom or something you can put it in there also you can use a crate you just need the right size
yes you can crate train him and it probably would be better if you did.I crate trained my bigger dogs but once they showed me they could be trusted and I was sure they were house broke they had the run of almost all the house.we just left the pen door open so if they wanted to take a nap they could just go and crash in their pen for a snooze
yes any dog can be crate trained instead of going out and spending money just leave him in the crate he will whine but when he figures out you wont let him out he will get used to it so just leave him in the crate but do let him out to get excersise when you are home
YES! You must start young. but you can start at a later age. Yes it is absolutely responsible to have him in a LARGE crate when you’re gone! But dobermans NEED exercise and he will be VERY excited when you get home and he can be out of his cage.
YOU NEED TO EXPECT MESSES, sorry. DO NOT ADOPT if you can’t handle this, why get a dog then?
You need to have some patience esp. in the beginning. It’s a new environment… give him a break
BE FIRM BUT LOVING when crating, he will whine and bark at night or when he is in there for the beginning, IGNORE IT.
Do not let him out when he is barking unless you absolutely know he needs to potty.
Do not scold him, this will teach him that the crate is punishment which it is NOT, it is a place to be secure in…
Make sure his crate is comfy too.
