Are there any ways to stop my dog from digging holes in my yard?
As stated in the question, Is there any way to stop my German Shorthaired Poniter from digging multiple holes in my yard? I don't want to keep her in her kennel when I'm gone, but I'd also rather not have to go around with the wheel barrel filling in holes after her. Help? :S All answers appreciated.

I know she'll get bored, etc. but shes got 4 scres to run around on. We have an electric fence and everything. Figured I'd let osme people know. Thanks to all whove answered.
tell it follow what i say and if it dont work lock him up in a closet for 10 or 5 minute. see if it work
Try digging a decent sized hole in an area where she likes to dig and hide dog bones and toys in it before you leave. Use potting soil or loose dirt to fill it. You may be able to keep her digging in the one spot and it’ll be easier to fill in when you get home.
If your dog is still a puppy it may grow out of the digging but some dogs are just diggers by nature. Good Luck.

This is going to sound mean, but it works, and I think it’s nicer than hitting their nose!
When they dig a hole, fill it with water, and hold their nose down it it. Tell them they’re bad, and don’t let them up for a few seconds. It has to scare them, but of course not hurt them. Repeat this several times. They’ll be terribly upset, but the idea is to make them think that if they dig, there will be water in the hole. Good luck, I hope it helps! It worked with a friend’s Jack Russell who was a terrible digger.
Fill a big old tire or child’s sandbox with dirt. Bury toys in it to reward the dog for digging just there. Praise him when he digs there. Keep interesting, safe toys for him to play with in the rest of the yard. Don’t leave him out more than fifteen minutes to a half hour at a time. If you have a nice neighbor dog who likes to play with him and a fenced in yard invite that dog for a play date. The play date can go for an hour before they get bored and start digging. This is the strategy we do with our dog.
have a digger myself! once i got a box of moth balls and spread them everywhere. especially in the flower and shrub beds. something in them keeps them away! go figure! just make sure they don’t eat them. which i haven’t heard of yet but it really did work. good luck!
Swat its nose and tell it its bad!
The dog is bored when you leave him all day. Give him some toys that he won’t choke on. Be careful too….it isn’t a great idea to keep him on a chain when you are gone because he could choke and die.
every time he dig one fill it up with dirt and take the dog to the hole and tell him to stop and that he is a bad dog it work when my yorkies used to do that

This is going to sound disgusting, but it works. When she digs a hole fill it with her dog poo, it will stop her from digging in THAT spot. Dogs dig for a couple of reasons: they smell an animal under the ground, and they are trying to get cooled off. You could try to get rid of the moles and grubs under the ground, and you could also get her an insulated dog house, or a small wading pool. Good luck
I’m afraid this is a hard habit to break. I would suggest two things. First, for the next few days, do not let her go outside without you and to follow her around and correct her every time she goes to dig…
Second, being a GSP, she’s probably bored. THese dogs require tons of excercise and activity. Try taking her for runs twice a day, at least 45 minutes each time. This will work off excess frustration and energy….you’ll be amazed at what a difference it makes. A tired dog is a good dog, this is especially true of the sporting breeds.
Your dog is bored-find something to keep it occupied. Give her an area where she can dig and hide some treats there.Give her things to chew and maybe get someone to come over and take her for a walk.
